Pittsburgh New Music Net

Alia Musica Pittsburgh returns January 30th with their annual Winter Chamber Concert; featuring the best of this summer’s recital series, including pieces by composers near and far, such as Burkhardt Reiter, Steven Stucky, Francis Poulenc, and many others.  Come join us at James Laughlin Hall on the Chatham University campus (music building) at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 in advance (through the website www.alia-musica.org, or from an Alia Musica Pittsburgh member).

The next five people who register for Pittsburgh New Music Net will receive free tickets to Alia Musica’s Winter Concert  this Sunday night. The concert takes place at Frick Fine Arts Auditorium at 7 p.m. and features music by Kerrith Livengood, Christopher Ruth, Matt Gillespie, Alia director Federico Garcia, and includes works by guest composers Alec Summers and Christian Kriegeskotte.

It’s a pleasure to meet 2009 with the great prospects of an existing Pittsburgh New Music Net. One more asset to the vibrant cultivation of new music in the city!

I’m also announcing the Winter Concert of Alia Musica in January. Things gradually came together to make up quite an intriguing program: a piece for harp, double-bass and marimba, one for harp, double-bass, and bassoon… more low register with cello, bass clarinet, and piano… (and to compensate: a violin and piano duet). Marimba, guitar, and piano, too. And a new set of miniatures for vibraphone and clarinet.

So, as always, some premieres and some older pieces—some Alia Musica members, and some guest composers.
