Victoire is an all-female chamber rock quintet that delivers a stirring blend of winds, strings, keyboards and lo-fi electronics all written by Victoire founder/composer/pianist Missy Mazzoli, who has been noted as one of “the most consistently inventive and surprising composers now working in New York” (New York Times). Pitchfork describes their music as “… so good… a pleasingly accessible entree into the world of modern pseudo-classical music.”
Matt Marks will perform with vocalist Mellissa Hughes from his debut album/opera The Little Death: Vol. 1 (also on New Amsterdam), a magnetic mix of 1970s gospel, frenetic electro-pop, and classic hip-hop beat recently praised by The New York Times and more. As the two characters explore their Fundamentalist Evangelism in an attempt to keep their relationship pure in the eyes of the Lord, a tale unfolds that is both inviting and unsettling to a score of hypnotic lyrics, catchy hooks and bouncy breakbeats. Marks is a founding member of Alarm Will Sound and known for his recent performance and arrangement of the Dirty Projectors’ live realization of The Getty Address.
