John Harbison is coming to Pittsburgh for the May 3 premiere of one of his latest compositions “Mary Lou: Four Symphonic Memories of Mary Lou Williams” that was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.
While Mr. Harbison is here, the PYSO will host a composers’ symposium that will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Heinz Hall. Mr. Harbison will discuss the premiere, the commissioning process, composing for a youth orchestra, getting a second performance, and much more.
